Seminários de Astronomia: Deep IFS View of Nuclei of Galaxies: The DIVING3D project

6 de novembro de 2017:10:30 - 11:30

Palestrante: Tiago Ricci.

Summary of the seminar:

Central regions of galaxies are unique places since they contain a supermassive black hole, and also stellar relics from their formation epochs. A fraction of these supermassive black holes accretes matter, resulting in an energetic phenomenon that is known as active galactic nuclei. The DIVING3D project is a Brazilian Large and Long Program (LLP) of the Gemini Telescope composed by a statistically complete sample of 170 galaxies of the southern hemisphere with B < 12.0 mag and |b| > 15o whose aim is to characterize the central region of galaxies in the local Universe. All objects are being observed with the GMOS-IFU instrument with a field of view of 3.5 x 5.0 arcsec2 that covers spatial scales of hundreds of pc. In this talk, I will present some early results obtained by our group, focusing on a few individual objects and also on two subsamples extracted from the main project.
