PhD Student / CEO

Felipe is Founder and CEO at UNSALT, a startup with the objetive of bring clean, fresh, water to a bilion people in 10 years. Idealized and co-founded 11, an organization with the objective of catalyze disruptive ideas and help make them exponential businesses. In 2015, he almost died. In response, he organized the first TEDxUFRGS2015. Currently he pursuit his PhD. in Physics at one of the best universities of his country (UFRGS), Brazil.

Experience

  • Founder and CEO at UNSALT
    2015-Till now

A 10x better way to provide clean, fresh, water to a billion people in 10 years.

  • Conection Scientist and co-founder at 11
    2015-Till now

An organization with the objective of catalyze disruptive ideas and help make them exponential businesses

  • TEDxUFRGS volunteer co-organizer
    2015

An amazing independently organized conference to bring UFRGS community ideas that worth spreading.

  • CNPQ Fellow - Undergraduate Research Assistant at CNPq - MCT
    2010-2012

I performed several studies in high energy physics, learning the theory behind phenomena ultra high energy cosmic rays, in addition I worked directly with results of the LHC in my term paper, in which I created a simple program using Mathematica to obtain cross sections, probability of production and the number of events for various energies.

  • Education

    • PhD in Physics - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)
      2014- Till now

      Thesis Title:
Advisor: Yan Levin and Renato Pakter

    • MSc in Physics - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)
      2013-2014

      Dissertation Title:
Relaxação ao equilibrio termodinâmico em sistemas com interações de longo alcance.
      Advisors:
      Yan Levin and Renato Pakter
      Brief Synopsis:
In this work we introduce a model composed of two subsystems with long-range interactions coupled by a short-range potential modulated by a coupling constant and showed tha relaxation time to the thermodynamic equilibrium depends on the intensity of this term. With a methodology based on molecular dynamics simulations, we were able to obtain the characteristic exponent of relaxation. Our results indicate that the value of this exponent is related with the loss of integrability and presence of chaos in particle trajectories subjected to quasi-stationary state potential.

    • BSc in Physics - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)
      2008-2012

      Final Paper Title:
Estudo sobre a produção de micro buracos negros no LHC.
      Supervisor:
      Magno Machado
      Brief Synopsis:
In this work we explore the black hole production at LHC energy limits, which occurs in the context of extra dimensions, in special in the ADD and Randall-Sundrum models, moreover we perform numerical simulations for the production cross-section in ADD scenario, from which we estimate the expected events number as 108 black holes per year, given the current energy and luminosity in proton-proton collisions. Experimentally, no deviation of background, at TeV energy range, was found and a limit on black hole mass could be set.
