Dear colleagues from Brazil,
Thank you very much for your interest in participating in the Launch
Conference of the International Year of Physics in Paris,Jan. 13-15,
2005.
For the registration procedure please go to the WWW site of the
conference (still somewhat rudimentary, we currently prepare a better
version) and click on the “form” hyperlink to fill out the
form to provide your detailed coordinates. It seems that the form works
well with Internet Explorer but not with Mozilla or Firefox.
We will provide more information (programme, accommodation, travel
…) soon on the WWW page and later this year also by email in a
Conference Circular for all registered participants.
There is one important point. In addition to sending participants who are
already well established scientists, we would encourage you to send also
young students (aged about 16-21) to the conference, both young men and
women, who might for instance be participants of the International
Physics Olympiads or other national competitions. We will provide
accommodation and some support for daily expenses for these young
students, financed by local resources from here. However we need their
names in order to verify that they have been selected by some national
procedure (up to you to define the details). You can send up to 10
students but you will have to find national or local support (government,
national physics societies, universities, or private foundations …)
for funding their travel expenses. This is the same procedure adopted for
all countries, and we hope to welcome a few hundred young students from
many countries world-wide at “Physics for Tomorrow”. It would
indeed be very good to welcome also students from Brazil. Please if you
can take care of that, it is an important issue for the conference and
also for the long-term effect of the WYP2005 idea.
We are looking forward to meeting you here in Paris in January 2005,
Johannes Orphal
P.S. If you are in contact with colleagues from other countries in South
America (or even elsewhere in the world), please be so kind to diffuse
the message about the conference – the event should be as
international /global as possible.
