The Graduate Program in Physics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), settled on the Institute of Physics, offer Master and PhD courses in physics since the late 60's. The Program has four Research Areas - Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics, Astrophysics, and Physics Teaching - involving several research lines. The Program has maintained its excellency along the years having the maximum score in all evaluations done by the Brazilian agency CAPES. This excellency comes from the high quality staff, having more than 60 professors and advisors. The Program has formed more than 210 PhDs and 370 Masters in physics, keeping an average of 100 students in both Master and PhD courses.
