Physics Applied to Economics and Social Sciences
PAESS is a workshop aiming to congregate physicists, economists and social science researchers with the objective of discussing models and methods of physics applied to economics and social sciences. This is a very active and important multidisciplinary field which exhibits a rapid growth in the last years and that is of interest of many scientists from different specialties around the world.
The workshop is open to participants from all countries but a particular effort will be made to make possible the participation of a number of researchers and graduate students from Latin America. The invited speakers come from all around the world. The number of participants is limited to 200.

- Criminality: Effect of punishment and rehabilitation
- Criminality: Its economic background and consequences

- Games on a network
- Market behavior and predictions

- Wealth Distribution and Inequalities
The workshop will be held in Porto Alegre, the southern most capital in Brazil. Some help for local expenses will be available. The meeting will be realized in one of the auditoria of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Information concerning traveling and accommodation will be available soon in this site.
The date of the meeting is the week preceding the MEDYFINOL Conference (http://medyfinol08.fisica.edu.uy), a traditional regular meeting of the statistical and nonlinear physics community in Latin-American. MEDYFINOL will be held not far from Porto Alegre, in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from 1 to 5 December 2008.
