Activities of the Belgium Team



i) Petra Rudolf, Muriel Vander Donckt and Nathalie Balcaen organised a

stand at the Second meeting of BeWiSe, the network for Belgian Women in

Science, held on 22 October 2002 at the Museum for Natural Sciences in

Brussels, Rue Vautier - Vautierstraat 29 (see

http://bewise.naturalsciences.be/meeting_2002/meeting2002). The stand

which is seen in the photo on the webpage quoted above) was dedicated to

the IUPAP conference on "Women in Physics" which took place in Paris in

March 2002. At the same meeting, Petra Rudolf gave a talk entitled "

Women in Science: status and perspectives" in which she extensively

reported on the results of the study " Women in Physics Speak " The 2001

International Study of Women in Physics, Rachel Ivie, Roman Czujko,

Katie Stowe, American Institute of Physics, Statistical Research Centre,

2002, carried out for the IUPAP conference. Some 70 participants

attended the meeting.

ii) Petra Rudolf reported on the the IUPAP conference on "Women in

Physics" and on the results of the study " Women in Physics Speak " also

during two seminars, entitled " Women in Physics: status and

perspectives" one held at the Physics Department of the University of

Gent, Belgium, on April 18th, 2002 and one held at Physics Department of

the University of Mons, Belgium on October 30th, 2002. About 35 faculty

and students attended the seminar in Gent, 25 faculty and students the

seminar in Mons.

iii) Petra Rudolf, Muriel Vander Donckt and Nathalie Balcaen organised a

stand dedicated to the IUPAP conference on "Women in Physics" at the

General Scientific Meeting of the Belgian Physical Society which was

held at the University of Liege, Belgium on June 5th and 6th, 2002. The

stand was very well visited during all the coffee breaks of the General

Scientific Meeting. 210 scientists took part in the General Scientific

Meeting.
