Venue
Famous for its long beachline, gorgeous peaks like Sugarloaf and Corcovado (where the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer sits atop) and an extensive tropical rainforest, the city of Rio de Janeiro was founded by the Portuguese in 1565 and served as its own capital and home for its court from 1808 to 1815. Rio, as usually called, remains a special place ever since, with hospitable people and plenty of social activities and outdoor adventures that justify its status of ultimate touristic destiny in the Southern Hemisphere.
Conference sites
As in previous editions, the first two days of the conference will be dedicated to training workshops (Tutorials), while plenary lectures, research symposia, poster sessions, and one special session honoring the winner/winners of the IUPAP C6 Young Scientist Prize are reserved for the remaining three days. In this edition, tutorials will be given at a different site from the main event.
5-6 June (CBPF, Urca)
In the first two days a set of four tutorial lectures will be given at CBPF (Brazilian Center for Physical Research), one of Brazil's most important research center. It is located in Urca, a strictly residential neighborhood where Sugarloaf sits atop. Neighboring Urca lies Copacabana, one of Rio's main touristic destiny where one can find a full range of different accommodations and direct buses leading to the conference site.
7-9 June Royal Tulip Hotel - São Conrado
The Royal Tulip Hotel will host the last three days of the conference. Located in São Conrado beach, it is comfortably connected to every other touristic area (including Copacabana) by subway, the city's best choice of public transportation. This neighborhood is Rio's main site for hang gliding and paragliding, and also the starting point for many trails throughout the rainforest. Restaurants, ATM machines and other conveniences can be found at São Conrado fashion mall, right next to the conference site.
